I wish I was Michel Franco’s gal pal who he showed his current Sundown to BEFORE saying, “that’s a wrap”, because I would have gladly said, ‘hey Michel, you gotta be a little more obvious in your target message’. And maybe Michel would have said, ‘hey chica, I’d like it to remain a mystery, a who done it, as you Americans say.’ Ok, well, then, that’s what I saw this afternoon.
What I liked:
Tim Roth’s self-care vs. nihilism: can people not shame others for how they deal with grief or how they live their life? I like his ‘you can’t cancel me’ vibe. And I liked the subtle build to this.
His relationship with the Mexican woman was intriguing. And they had chemistry.
Charlotte Gainsbourg’s story line was interesting and she’s terrific as the angry, tortured, lugubrious individual.
I liked the surprises in the plot. Gorgeous cinematography.
Dislikes:
The end? My conclusion: existentialism personified.
