Here’s the bottom line on Matt Walsh’s What is a Woman? First, let me get my traffic cop whistle. And I earned my whistle gaining a Masters Degree in Counseling from SUNY Brockport.
BLURRRR (that’s a whistle sound): You, Matt Walsh, you don’t need to be smarmy when asking questions to adults.
BLURRRR: And at least three interviewees: you also don’t need to be cold and demeaning when non-smarmy questions are asked of you.
BLURRRR: To both ‘sides’, no one should have any business telling someone what to do or be if both parties are ADULTS.
We need a national establishment of what age makes one an adult (18 sounds fair), which is the fundamental question. Most states choose and age of consent and that should suffice then subtract 5 years for the age at which sex education should be doled out. And sex ed. means the birds and the bees, especially in the face of Roe V Wade going down. If we are taking away access to end life, then AT LEAST provide kids without the maturity to be parents, the knowledge of hwo to prevent pregnancy and that should mean all ways-abstinence, birth control, etc.
Should sex ed. be taught by rational parents? Yes, ideally. If parents feel the schools should do this teaching, then the Health Teacher is an extremely important and powerful role, one in which needs to be chosen as carefully as a Supreme Court Justice or any juror. Any strong bias should prevent them from such a role.
The bottom lines are:
*kids need protection from ill meaning adults (when those adults are your parents, then of course, it’s an 18 year prison sentence, but it’s the luck of the draw and hopefully there are still social services for those abused)
*kids should not be pressured to be cool and hence a different way than what they feel naturally
*kids need to have safe spaces in school, especially bathrooms and locker rooms
*Title IX needs protecting and there should be four teams for each sport: men’s, women’s, transgendered males, transgendered females
What is a Woman was sad, but not shocking. Children have been abused for as long as their have been parents from child labor to conversion camps to now the trend of making a child wrap their ahead around what gender they should be, rather than a kid exploring creativity and learning about the world. We’ve allowed kids to be in adult conversations without providing structure or discipline and that combo is extremely dangerous, hence partly why mental illness is rampant in school aged kids.
But unfortunately our world is being controlled by extremist media who want divisiveness instead of love. May there be a renaissance of positive love and understanding in music, books, theater…that’s what we need more now than ever. Let Beyonce be the leader who starts that movement with her positive song (YOU WON’T BREAK MY SOUL).
