I enjoyed the documentary ‘Johnny Cash: An American Redemption Icon’ directed and I assume also written by Ben Smallbone.
I enjoyed the inspirational story about Johnny’s fall into amphetamine and alcohol abuse and his rise to prison concerts and his partnership with Billy Graham. Johnny was fearless in honesty and faith.
The proselytizing by the m.c. pastor was too much. I certainly don’t mind a man of the cloth sealing the deal so to speak, but his speeches interrupted and took away the power of the meaningful biography. On the flipside, I really liked hearing from Johnny’s son, John Carter Cash, whose commentary was much more sincere.
Unfortunately, the film wasn’t well attended at CineBistro Siesta Key, though I was heartened to see a family with their young daughter in tow. Certainly our world would be better off if parents took their kids to this rather than “Violent Night’.
