Other People’s Children, written and directed by Rebecca Zlotowski is the second film I saw this week that starts out wobbly like a fresh born calf, but then finally gets in the groove enough to earn a favorable review. The first third of the film was akin to constant Ra-Ra Instagram posts, a look at my successes and this cool love affair.
As noted the film finally gets to some conflict which combined with believable writing and performances made it a worthwhile watch. Virginie Efira is the woman whose biological clock is about to sound its last alarm and Roschidy Zem is a true man in his pursuit of a compatible company. Exes and kids don’t make great lubricant for a long lasting relationship though and while some of the actions were predictable, and the endings multiple, overall, the film won me over. Message being a la The Rolling Stones, ‘you can’t always get what you want, but you just might find, you get what you need’. I can relate.
