A Love Song: Gorgeous

I missed A Love Song when it appeared at Burns Court this past spring, but had heard from a good friend that it was profound. On my Delta flight to Rochester, it was the perfect chance to see if this was hyperbole.

But profound is apt. Dale Dickey is a triumph as the middle-aged lead who goes to Campsite 7, hoping a childhood flame will meet her there. Her existence is simple, trap lobsters, make coffee, learn about birds & astronomy. She waits…

And waits…Wes Studi is in the trailer, so it’s not a spoiler to say he finally appears, but that’s where I’ll leave youto catch this beauty.

Max Walker-Silverman (director/actor) won the Sundance Next Innovator Award and is so deserving.

May we all find a middle-aged romance in which non-technological simple pleasures out in nature free us to focus on what Lucas Nelson calls ‘the real’.

And they say you get more emotional when flying which could be why I teared up at the memory of a trip to Rhode Island two decades ago, where I stayed on the Herman Melville with my then fiance, up on stilts in drydock. Pre cell phones, one of the most romantic excursions I have had (thus far 🙏).
