It Ain’t Over; I Sure Hope Not

It Ain’t Over is a touching documentary written and directed by Sean Mullin. I fought back tears several times and credit Yogi Berra’s gorgeous life story most, but Sean Mullin assuredly spun the tale in a very entertaining way.

Mostly through excellent old films and news clippings, Mullin uses Berra’s beautiful granddaughter as the springboard to admonish the world (namely baseball and the US Military) for not giving Berra more credit for his unbelievable record.

I knew by name and face many a player talked about; Mantle, Mattingly, DiMaggio, Robinson, but I had no idea of Yogi’s influence and prestige until today. And the story of the two no-no’s, the first with Berra and Larsen and the then the miracle of all miracles, on Yogi Berra day no less, when he blessed Joe Giardi’s glove culminating with Cone’s subsequent perfect game. It doesn’t get any better than that for great cinema. Not to mention the ’69 Mets under Berra’s management.

Mullin chose the best commentators to accentuate the already positive story among them: Bob Costas, Billy Crystal, Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly, Joe Giardi (I’m in love), Willie Randolph, just to name a few.

A must see for any baseball fan, a moving tale of great karma deservingly dealt to a loving human being. May the U.S. return to saner simpler times as we close out 2023.
