Jude Law was amazing in The Order, as was Nichols Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Junee Smollett and Mark Maron. So why only two eensy nominations? Why not highlight the proud fight against heinous domestic terrorism?
Directed by Justin Kurzel, this ‘based on a true story’ was very compelling. I haven’t seen Kurzel’s previous films, but Nitram and Snowtown Murders both had some major nominations seem to fall into the same genre as The Order (true crime).
The plot revolves around a white nationalist cult that committed several acts of terrorism in the early 80’s. While the story had propulsion, at least one of the three screenwriters-Zach Baylon, Gary Gerhardt, and/or Kevin Flynn chose to add an implausible tidbit toward the end. A minor flaw, but definitely enough to take me out of the movie to utter aloud, “no way.”
But Jude Law is unrecognizable (almost) just by his gritty, surly acting.
And a shout out to the director’s younger brother, Jed Kurzel, who added a tremendous score which heightened the suspense.
