WindFall, a Generous Review

Maybe it’s the whimsical feeling of Spring, but just as I loved the clumsy erotic thriller Deep Water, I also dug Windfall. Most of the reason why is my adoration for Jesse Plemons and Jason Segel, both fine actors. In fact, since Toney Kotsur won 18 awards for CODA, could he break the foot off his Oscar and give it to Jesse?

But seriously folks, Charlie McDowell, the writer and director of Windfall, definitely has Hitchcockian blood…everything from the spine tingling soundtrack, to the patient build of suspense.

The story without spoilers, speaks to the ever growing oligarchy we have in this country of ultra rich buying acres of land to have their tower of privacy and ostentatiousness, and how one not-so-well-off intruder can topple the entire ‘fortress’.

My only negative is Lily Collins, who Cyranoed (my new word for nepotism) her way into the role of Jesse Plemons wife. She didn’t do anything for Mank, and here she is her bland bougie self. Ugh. But when your husband is director and your Dad is Phil Collins, well, there you have the seed for the story Windfall…

Definitely worth seeing for the twists, turns and Jesse Plemons magic.
